The minimum time that a divorce can take is six months, from the time of the filing of the petition no earlier than six months will a divorce be granted; however, for the most part, divorces take much longer. There is a significant amount of issues that need to be worked out between the parties and the length of time that the divorce takes is based upon how much the parties fight. If there are children that need to be decided upon in regards to custody issues, child support, spousal support, dividing up of the assets, it usually takes much longer than six months. It could take up to a year and a half or even longer.
