Mr. Young discusses the factors involved in determining the amount of spousal support one would receive after a dissolution of marriage.

When the court makes an award regarding spousal support they look to a variety of factors. The primary analysis that which they undertake looks into in regards to who was the primary wage earner throughout the length of marriage, if that primary bread winner is still making those wages, the court will look at the wages of each party and make a spousal support order based on that. The length of time that one must pay spousal support is based upon the length of the marriage. If it a short term marriage, ten years or less, you can expect to pay spousal support for half the length of the marriage. On the other hand if it is a long term marriage, ten years or more, you can expect to pay spousal support until the supported spouse dies or gets re married.
